LAST CHANCE Stéphanie Saadé: The Encounter of the First and Last Particles of Dust
Stéphanie Saadé’s second solo show at Grey Noise features a new central work based on the carpet that covered the floor of the room that Saadé occupied as a teenager in her family home. He tore it up at the end of 2018 (with the consent and help of her father) and added 18 embroidered ‘trajectories’ that represent the most significant currents in her life during the time she lived in the room between 1995 and 2001. The Encounter of the First and Last Particles of Dust reflects the notion of displacement in different ways: the memories attached to the embroidered trajectories intertwine personal stories with Lebanon state at that particular time.
Elsewhere in the exhibition, a wall-hung necklace composed of beads found by chance between 2014 and 2019 (A Necklace of Found Beads) remains open: it will only be closed once the number of beads reaches the age of the artist. Digiprints also relates in its own manner to routes and displacement; the subject of the photograph is the artist’s mobile phone’s screen, at the exact moment when she reaches the photographer’s studio. The phone continues to be used seconds before the shot, which makes the final “composition” perfectly uncontrollable.
