LAST CHANCE Spring Break
Custot’s third anniversary show is a group exhibition of paintings and sculptures by an impressive group of international artists – Etel Adnan, Ron Arad, Fernando Botero, Ian Davenport, Barry Flanagan, Richard Höglund, Lino Melano, Umberto Mariani, Joan Miró, Jedd Novatt, Marc Quinn, Pablo Reinoso, Hervé van der Straeten, Sophia Vari, Bernar Venet and Fabienne Verdier.
Highlights probably include The Eye of History (Polar Perspective) Red, 2012, the Marc Quinn painting above. It comments on a world of 24-hour news and ever-present media, syncopating with notions of our eroding and changing geographical world. Also on show are three bronzes from Quinn’s Nurseries of El Dorado series, botanical elements which would never be found together in nature placed together to suggest a mythical world. And Black Sand, 2018 by Argentinian sculptor Pablo Reinoso is a black painted steel bench from the Spaghetti Bench series which made Reinoso’s name; the sculpture reappropriates the anonymous design of a park bench, bringing it to life as it rises up beyond the seat.
