Shirin Neshat and Fereydoun Ave: The Book of Kings
This exhibition in Total Art’s continuing series of Visual Dialogues has two big names from Iranian contemporary art: photographer/videographer Shirin Neshat and the influential Fereydoun Ave, both responding in their own way to the 10th Century epic by Ferdowsi, Shahnameh (The Book of Kings). The world’s longest epic poem created by a single poet, it has become the national epic of Greater Iran; and being filled with mythological Persian archetypes – kings, lovers, demons, heroes– it should provide meaty inspiration for these two artists.
To 30 May.
