Rights of Future Generations: Environment and Ecology
15 March @ 5.00 pm - 8.00 pmFree, but pre-register
The inaugural Sharjah Architecture Triennial – due to get underway in November 2019 – has the theme ‘Rights of Future Generations’, seeking to question how inheritance, legacy, and the state of the environment are passed from one generation to the next, how present decisions have long-term intergenerational consequences, and how other expressions of co-existence might challenge dominant perspectives. In advance of the opening, research is being conducted via forum meetings, in three areas: housing, education and environment. The first two have already been held; now Sharjah Architecture Triennial curator Adrian Lahoud is inviting a group of speakers to address how particular concepts in the Global South open the possibility of non-extractive and non-domesticating relationships between refugees and their ecologies:
Dalal Alsayer PhD Candidate on the History and Theory of Architecture at University of Pennsylvania
Samia Henni Assistant Professor in the College of Architecture, Art and Planning at Cornell University
Marina Tabassum founder of Marina Tabassum Architects and winner of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture 2016
