My Name is Rachel Corrie

28 February @ 8.00 pm - 9.30 pm

Free, but contribution welcome

The powerful dramatic treatment (by Katherine Viner and the late, great Alan Rickman) of the journals of an activist with the International Solidarity Movement – 23 year old Rachel Corrie, who died on 16 March 2003 standing between an armoured bulldozer and a Palestinian house. What made a young woman leave her comfortable existence to fight for the rights of strangers in a war zone? Poetic, entertaining, and timely, this intimate coming-of-age story based on the writings she left behind chronicles the journey of a complex, eloquent idealist and real-life heroine; it makes for a vivid portrait that wowed the critics when it was produced in London: “funny, passionate, bristling with idealism and luminously intelligent” said Time Out London; “powerful, thought-provoking, deeply moving” was the Daily Telegraph’s conclusion.

Padraig Downey of Danú Dubai (one of our 50 To Follow) directs Farrah Yassin in this stirring, troubling account of an extraordinary young woman’s overwhelming commitment to her cause. (It’s also the first time a one-woman show has been produced locally in the GCC, says Danú.) There are further shows on 1 and 2 March.
