Curated by Mouna Atassi, founder of the Atassi Foundation, Personal Revolutions feature the works of Syrian women artists working across multiple generations, media and themes. The exhibition examines the lives and works of pioneering female artists in Syria within the context of both personal development as well as the wider backdrop of the intense social and political changes that have taken place across Syria, from the early 20th century to the present day. “To know a society and understand it better one must look into the role and dynamism of women,” says Atassi. “There has never been a dedicated exploration of the art scene relating to women artists in Syria. Personal Revolutions aims to fill this void, even if what we have brought together here can only ever hope to scratch the surface.”
Artists include Dorreih Fakhoury Hammad, Laila Nseir, Hiba Ansari, Sulafa Hijazi, Laila Muraywid, Randa Maddah, Nour Asalia, Khadija Baker, and Nagham Hudaifa.
To 8 April.
