Never Leave Me: dir Aida Begic (2017)

The story of three young Syrian boys who escape the orphanage to build a new life as refugees in the magical, mythical Turkish city of Sanliurfa. In their search for recovery from their traumatic past, the children will cross the path from destructiveness and hostility to meaningfulness and love – and maybe demonstrate that the pain suffered in war belongs to us as much as it does to others.
It is showing with a Greek short, Hearts for dinner, dir Renee Koutoula (2017); housekeeper Antigoni, an immigrant to a small Greek village, has to cook artichokes for the dinner guests – an episode that turns out to be more momentous than it might seem.
This presentation is part of Alliance Française Dubai’s Femmes Film Festival, a second consecutive year for this programme of films by female directors from Mediterranean countries.
