Hugo: dir Martin Scorsese (2011)
10 July @ 6.00 pm - 8.00 pmFree, but pre-register
Scorsese’s story of an orphaned boy in 1920s Paris who lives in the walls of a railway station, as he tries to solve a mystery left behind by his late father; it’s an homage to early pioneers of cinema including the Lumiere brothers and Georges Méliès (though it also reflects the transition from magic tricks to the more narrative filmmaking of say Fritz Lang). It’s an impressive piece of work, an adventure story without too much sentimentality, beautifully filmed in some terrific locations with some top acting talent.
Screens in the Cinem’Art programme of films inspired by artworks at Louvre Abu Dhabi, curated by Hind Mezaina and showing each Wednesday in July. All films are free, but pre-book on 600 56 55 66, at the museum ticketing desk, or via the website.
