Verdi’s opera was directed for Opera Bastille by Krzysztof Warlikowski in the version modified by Verdi himself for the work’s first performance in 1867. A work by an Italian composer created in French and concerning the fate of the Spanish Netherlands, it mixes themes of religion, history and psychology; Warlikowski gives us a tragedy haunted by ghosts, and places the intimate at the heart of an imaginary fresco truer than history itself.
This is the film of a live performance at the Opera Bastille in Paris, shown in the well-equipped cinema room of AF Dubai with English subtitles. Tickets are AED 35 for AF members, AED 45 for others; book via firstname.lastname@example.org.
