Cactus Flower: dir Mounira Al Solh (2017)

27 March @ 7.30 pm - 10.00 pm

Free

Mounira Al Solh’s emotive feature parallels the lives of three very different women who come embark on a journey of self-discovery through friendship. Aida is a struggling actress who finds herself kicked out on the streets of Cairo wih her neighbour Samiha, a reclusive old bourgeoise. With no money and nowhere to go, the two women fall in with the street-savvy Yassin … An extraordinary friendship grows among the unlikely trio, like a delicate flower blooming from a thorny cactus.

Showing with Shatha Masoud’s critical short Mamsous (2018), a documentary on the struggles of depression and anxiety: three women share their experiences with clinical depression and panic attacks.

This is a screening in the Herstory: Film & the Arab Woman series, a programme of contemporary films about, on and by Arab women that is presented by Cinema Akil with Warehouse421.
