Tonight’s concert opens with the world premiere of Tmesis from the young British composer Bushra El-Turk, drawing on her Lebanese roots for its sound world. That’s followed by guest violinist Karen Gomyo playing Korngold’s lush, romantic Violin Concerto; Ms Gomyo is truly a world artist – born in Japan, raised in Canada, living in Berlin, she has already performed with many of the world’s top orchestras.
The second half features music from one of the twentieth century’s best-loved ballets, Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev.
Ben Gernon conducts the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
