The sixth annual Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival is including for the first time a category for Recycled Art within its visual arts strand.
Submissions must use recyclable materials from the emirate “or focus on telling the story of recycling” and can come from individuals, students, and school teams. Participants can source recyclable materials for their submissions directly from the RAK Waste Management Agency, which is partnering with the Festival for this.
The rewards aren’t massive in financial terms – two winners will be honoured during the Festival in February 2018 with AED 2,500 awards – but when it comes to recycling (and indeed art) every little counts. And as Sonia Nasser (right), Executive Director of the Ras Al Khaimah Waste Management Agency, put it: “Raising awareness of recycling is essential for the success of Ras Al Khaimah’s efforts to divert 75 percent of all municipal solid waste from landfills by 2021. Art provides a unique and fun way to encourage recycling”.
Apply from 20 August; applications close 20 September, and the results will be announced in November. More information and submission guidelines are here.
