Meraas, the Dubai-based property company responsible for many of the sexier developments along the city’s coastal strip, has opened the fourth edition of its Urban Pixels photography competition.
The competition runs from 19 April to 10 May, is open to UAE residents and visitors, and invites submissions that reflect “the vibrancy of everyday urban life in Dubai”. The pics have to be snapped at one of the seven Meraas destinations – City Walk, Boxpark, The Outlet Village, Al Seef, La Mer, Kite Beach and The Beach – and should fit one of this year’s three themes: the Year of Zayed, Street food and dining, and Happiness (seems broad enough, which presumably is Emaar’s goal).
Images must be posted on Instagram using the hashtag #UrbanPixelsDXB and the hashtag of the place where it was taken (and of course you’ll need permission to post any images of people).
Entries will be judged by the ubiquitous panel of experts (no word as yet on who’s involved) and there will also be a popular vote for one People’s Choice award. The winners will be named at an award ceremony on 13 May, and thereafter the top picks will be on display at La Mer from 13 to 23 May. Winners will get prizes, specified as “an exciting array of electronic gadgets”.
There are a collection of useful-looking free workshops for entrants, on 21 and 28 April and 5 May: “expert photographers will share their tips and techniques on enhancing photography skills”.
